As a new parent who’s never used childcare before, how do I know what is available?
There are two broad categories of care; care provided in
your own home and care provided in the community. With
in-home care the provider comes into your home to
provide care on a part or full-time basis. The
caregiver, often referred to as a sitter or nanny,
either commutes to or lives in your home. With community
care, a range of options typically are available,
including childcare centers, family day care, nursery
and preschools, and before and after school programs.
The Work-Life Specialist will review the different types
of care options and help you determine which will best
meet your family's needs.
How do I know how to assess a center or care provider?
There are many factors involved in choosing quality childcare. When you call the
Work-Life Service, talk to us about assistance in assessing providers. The
Work-Life Specialist can walk you through this important process. We can also send you our informative booklet: A Comprehensive Guide to Choosing Quality Childcare.
